The British heavyweight doubled down on his much-discussed comments about being prepared to “kill” his opponent during a news conference in Miami on Wednesday.

His words were first made on Tuesday when the boxer was asked if he would hold back against the social media star, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming contest against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has drawn criticism over the risk involved and the size difference between the two athletes.

Fury Labels AJ a “Classless Loser”

Ex- world heavyweight champion The Gypsy King branded Joshua a “disgrace” for his extreme comments.

But Joshua, defended his mindset: “This is my profession, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I understand many people don't grasp it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. Whatever happens, happens - provided that my hand is held high, that's what's paramount, with all due respect.”

He continued, “That's just the mentality we have to have as warriors. I don't know if other fighters think that way. Maybe they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a perilous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You wish your opponent exits the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It wasn't personal.”

Paul's Incendiary Retort

Paul, a considerable underdog in the heavyweight contest as a natural cruiserweight, was equally combative in his response.

“This is a contemporary combat sport,” Paul declared. “I'm prepared. I want his strongest punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all over. Let's kill each other.”

AJ will face Paul, 28, at Florida's arena in a fight many see as a major mismatch, with some arguing it should have been approved as an non-professional fight.

The professional contest will be contested over eight three-minute rounds using regular ten-ounce gloves, with a specified maximum weight for Joshua.

Joshua Claims He Was “Called In to Rescue” Boxing

Despite the graphic terminology used, Joshua claimed he has been “called in to rescue” boxing.

“They want me to halt the Jake Paul show and I understand it and that's why I have to bear the sport on my back in this bout,” he added.

The news conference also had more humorous exchanges, with AJ laughing as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The face-off concluded peacefully, with the underdog adopting a bizarre posture before Joshua stayed calm and playfully touched his necklace.

Both Fighters Dismiss Pre-Arranged Claims

The unusual aspect of this bout has led to speculation about its legitimacy, including claims that he may be prohibited from knocking Paul out.

“There are no clauses in the contract, AJ can confirm it. We're going to battle,” Jake Paul insisted.

Joshua, sporting a valuable necklace, jokingly added, “The only thing in the agreement that got my interest was the purse.”

He has stated on his platforms that the fight earnings will be exceptionally large.

Biggest Upset in Sport's History?

Jake Paul first made his name as an online prankster, gathering a massive social media following.

He has never fought anyone of the former champion's skill level but maintained that his opponent would not underestimate him.

“It's smart on his part,” Paul said. “This could potentially be, and will be, the biggest defeat of his life.”

A win for the underdog would be perhaps the biggest surprise in the sport's annals.

It would certainly leave an indelible mark on Joshua's record, but the fighter said it would not spell the end.

“I would return again, shake it off,” he remarked. “I'll be main eventing again in a couple of years. That's life. I'm a player in the game.”
