Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period like this with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
