Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
