Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
