'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the dramatic dying seconds of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful strike from distance, and Cameron Burgess quickly slammed home the deflection before racing off toward the East Stand to celebrate, with fans congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory completed an incredible comeback given the team had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a next round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right flank after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the City players who paid tribute to the way the underdogs attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then without warning they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even noticing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and attention just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at his former club and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a temporary move at League Two Salford City, before he departed Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without much intensity. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that growth for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including home and away fixtures against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the kid from the local area in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his dad, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by team personnel, the drivers, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, Ronald, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on London's Central line after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
