Los Angeles experienced widespread festivities after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-match World Series title. Supporters worldwide united with local residents in jubilation, marking the initial time in a quarter-century that a team has secured consecutive championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Enormous Turnout
Local events included a downtown parade on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Online footage depict thousands of Los Angeles residents flooding city center avenues, many displaying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The team was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route concluded at the stadium, where the team walked out to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with the renowned DJ spinning music and Ice Cube cruising a Pacific blue classic car around the stadium’s outfield.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Player Reactions
Festivities started well before the procession, with Dodgers fans lighting fireworks in the roads of the city center on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, commented plainly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. This city means everything to me.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
In contrast, the team owner received a cooler reception at the rally. Video footage from the gathering appear to show him taking the stage to a mix of applause and boos, with negative shouts punctuating his speech.
The World Series served as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for the city. An estimated quarter-million people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to team member one athlete, supporters this year showed as much if not more support.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman remarked. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
