Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season created by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
