McLaren F1 team executives Zak Brown and Stella pointed to opposing racers for the crash between Piastri and Norris at the start of the United States Grand Prix sprint event.

Piastri, leading his teammate in the championship by 22 points, crashed into his team-mate after colliding with Sauber's Hulkenberg.

The incident took both team drivers out of the race, along with the Alonso, who was on the inside of Hulkenberg.

McLaren Leaders Voice Frustration Over Crash

Zak Brown, McLaren Racing's chief executive officer, stated to Sky Sports that some of the driving at the start was "unprofessional", adding: "Clearly Nico drove into Oscar and he had no business being where he was."

The team boss Andrea Stella commented: "Our feeling is that we are displeased that we didn't have the possibility to compete."

"It's surprising that some racers with a lot of experience fail to act with appropriate caution. Enter the initial turn, make sure you don't damage other drivers and carry on."

McLaren clarified that Stella was mentioning both Hulkenberg and the Aston Martin driver.

Differing Perspectives on the Incident

Nevertheless, former champion Damon Hill, providing analysis for BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, said he believed Piastri had not demonstrated enough awareness of the risks of the opening turn of an F1 race when he decided to move inside to try to pass Norris.

The Australian had a better start than Norris and at first challenged on the outer side on the ascending approach to the turn.

However he then moved inside in an effort to get a advantage on his teammate on the way out, only to collide with Hulkenberg.

Driver Reactions After the Incident

Piastri said: "Less than perfect but I haven't seen what happened, I tried to move inside on Norris and we were both quite distant from the corner apex and then got a hit and it propelled me into Norris. Unfortunate."

Norris said: "I just got hit, right? I did nothing wrong. Further back events unfolded and I just was unfortunate and got hit because of it. I don't know. I need to look a bit more thoroughly. It's more drivers further back just being a bit reckless and we are the consequence of that."

The Aston Martin driver said: "At one point I believed I was in the correct position on the inner side, but some vehicles came very fast from the outside switching back and then I was there in the center."

Hulkenberg, who had qualified a best qualifying fourth, said: "Major disappointment. All the good work from yesterday in the bin. Just messy."

"Oscar steered inward pretty forcefully trying to get the inside line and way out of the first corner but I cannot vanish."

"I had Alonso challenge on the inside and I couldn't see him any more. I aimed to leave space for him and then Oscar steered inward and the collision was inevitable."

Post-Crash and McLaren's Reaction

McLaren will review the crash with their racers but not until the race weekend. Both cars needed significant repairs before grand prix qualifying at 10 PM BST on the weekend.

The team principal said: "Overall displeased but we take it on the chin, we are now concentrating on repairing the cars, there is a lot to do and then we will resume the event from there."

"We are in a competitive place from our competitiveness point of view so I trust we have the possibility to compete, race normally and capitalise on our capabilities."

"Championship points are the key thing, I don't want to talk about mal-intent, just caution. A little more prudence would be good for all involved."

Championship Implications

The sprint event was won by the Verstappen, who gained ground on both McLaren drivers in the standings - he is now fifty-five points behind Piastri and 33 behind of Norris.

The team boss said: "The implication is what the maths show - we lost eight points with both racers, but we concentrate on ourselves. We have a very competitive vehicle and two strong racers. We look forward to just some standard competition."

The Red Bull driver said he was approaching the title race one event at a time.
