Position a couple of ice cubes on the growing medium. The idea posits as the ice thaws, it steadily dispenses water, giving the roots a chance to drink in it and preventing waterlogged conditions.
Examining the Practice
This approach is most effective for small pots and plants sensitive to wet feet, for instance moth orchids. But, most of tropical indoor plants are averse to cold temperatures. Their roots evolved for temperate conditions, and freezing water can stress or harm them. Room conditions has a significant factor in the technique's success: in a warm environment, the ice will melt rapidly, providing minimal benefit, whereas in a chilly area it may stay excessively, chilling the roots and slowing water uptake. Make sure to confirm ice cubes are made from pure, potable water and do not force them in contact with plant stems or exposed roots.
Conducting a Test
This was tried on a common orchid. Using two cubes per week kept the roots nicely damp preventing saturation. But, using the same method on a Calathea resulted in browning at the leaf edges, a clear indication of chill damage.

The ice cube technique can be effective for Phalaenopsis, yet it is not ideal for most tropical indoor plants and hinges significantly on ambient temperature. Therefore, this trick isn't endorsed; lukewarm water given gradually continues to be the safest way to effectively water your leafy friends.
