The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl containing multiple personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, each with their own anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character navigating a desolate church.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The core gameplay loop revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large flowers growing from their necks are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
