The Renowned Musician Calls On Backing to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to send support to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The single was laid down in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the industry. All took part in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a significant sum for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a team of talented individuals. The song features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have clarified that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the area was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
