Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership was established to develop a TTRPG set within the series' apocalyptic setting. This initiative was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to begin in April of 2026.

"This endeavor aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, providing fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an official release.

Initial offerings are set to feature a starter set, essential manuals, a GM screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, sending the United States into chaos. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions rise, turning the urban landscape into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents enter the story.

Development on the RPG has been in progress for about three years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to access a broader market, specifically in North America. Production is slated to begin right after the campaign, with shipping expected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

An early look at the system confirms it uses d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and strategic approach. Players leverage skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, typically between one and five d10s.

  • Rather than summing the total, participants choose a single “result die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then measured against a set challenge number.
  • Rolling a perfect 10 grants additional bonuses, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Situational Insight

Battles stress positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the source material. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This mechanic seems built to reward coordination and clever tactics over simple statistics.

A Novel Wound Mechanic

The way health is tracked adds a compelling narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.

  1. At zero health, an operative collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
  2. They can still crawl and perform restricted acts, simulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
  3. Any agent knocked down must roll on a injury chart, risking lingering conditions like shock or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Scenario

A free Quickstart Guide is promised in the near future. It includes a ready-to-play starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players lead the search for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an attack by the violent Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the full range of offerings are expected to be detailed closer to the Kickstarter start date.
