World Series Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning clash that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51M watchers in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete US average reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various tongues.
